You have an important personal question you’d like answered. Explain the procedure for getting your question answered and why this method appeals to you (you don’t need to get specific, but let’s assume the answer does not require specific expert knowledge, as from a doctor).
When I have a personal question I need answered I usually decide who is best to talk to about that question. There are certain questions I would go to my mom or my sister for but most typically if I have an important question I would go to my boyfriend or my bestfriends. Again, depending on the topic I would either email somebody to ask or call them if I couldn't talk to them in person. If it is an issue that I don't think any of my close friends or family could help me with, sometimes using the web to find answers is a good idea. Often times if I'm feeling sick or confused about something, going to the web is an easy way to find out more information. I prefer this method because it allows me to find information on my own time and there is plenty of it. If i need to research something, typically I will start with a broad search and then narrow it down. That way, I can gather lots of information and learn about whatever it is I'm unsure of. Although using the web can be a bad idea since all the information is not guaranteed to be accurate, I typically find that if you search the web for awhile you can pick out what correlates with one another and what seems completely false.

I definitely agree with you about asking someone that is close to you to help answer the question. While I think it depends on the question as to what person you would ask I think it is a good idea. I would also look on the web to help me find answers, it’s very convenient and this way you can look at multiple people’s answers to see what would help you the most. The only thing I probably wouldn’t do is e-mail someone. If it was a personal question I, personally, would rather ask someone in person or over the phone.
ReplyDeleteAs an avid internet user for questions, when I'm sick I turn to the internet too. With sources nowadays like WebMD among other places, you can diagnose yourself with out even having to go to the doctor. I also liked how you stated you can turn to the internet on your own time and will provide you with plenty of resources.
ReplyDeleteI agree with both Laura's blog post and Alissa's comments about the method of gaining an answer to an important question. I am also an avid internet user when it comes to finding the answers to questions. I would prefer getting the answer straight from a credible, knowledgable, trustworthy source. Beyond that, I do feel that the Internet is a very useful tool to finding information. As far as guaranteeing the credibility online information, at this point in my life, I trust my own capability of knowing what is a credible online source and what isn't.
ReplyDeleteI also want to mention one last thing and that is the difference between your family and your peers. There are certain things that you would only feel comfortable hearing from your parents or siblings, and there are perhaps even more things that you would only want to deal with amongst your peers.
I think this is a great method. Close friends and family are good people to talk about important issues with. The web can also be a good tool for things that you don't need to keep private.
ReplyDeleteIf you use the Web, how do you trust the source? Is it the property's reputation (i.e. WebMD), or is it the number of folks commenting or chiming-in that agree?
ReplyDeleteI think if I use the web to find answers I typically rely on reputation. Or if somebody has mentioned they found useful information from a certain source thats usually where I'll begin my search.
